Which care?

Aluminium fences do not require any specific care. Only use soapy water to clean all the dirty marks. It is a big advantage as the fences are usually big areas, time and work savings worth to chose this luxury material which is a material of the future. A wood, iron or steel fence require lots of care.

A vinyl fence is as advantageous as aluminium in terms of maintenance. Regular cleanings with soapy water is also enough. While we just admire our garden and stand by the pool, other clean and paint their fences.

The most decorative

Aluminium fits with all type of buildings. Light and easy to use, aluminium allows to produce your own shapes such as ironwork. From old style to modern shapes. Aluminium allows futuristic shapes as it is even stronger in sections. By choosing different shapes the producers can create curves which make the product stronger without being heavier. An aluminium sheet of 2 mm is very hard to twist but seems very light when you look at it. All colours can be used on aluminium which is a big advantage, thermolacquering can also be used on aluminium which may look like wood.

PVC is created in various shapes which more often, look like wood fences. The material needs to be thick enough to be mechanically resistant. The reinforcement pieces inside often consist of galvanised metal more massive than aluminium. The PVC comes often in large bars which look like wood bars for wood fences. PVC is most of the time always white as the other colours hardly resist to the sun. However, PVC is perfect for fences due to its various shapes mostly for high lines which look like waves or lean in oblique lines.

The most resistant

Aluminium is stable and choc resistant depending on the thickness and shapes on the pieces. Large and curved sections will be more resistant than thin sections. There are several level of quality to choose from. Aluminium is not as hard as steel and can be distorted by shocks. It will be hard to give it its initial shape but won't neither break nor flake off. The major inconvenient with aluminium fences is the rust of the steel rivets used to fix the sections to the posts. It is even worst near the sea, where, aluminium itself stay untouched.

Strongly reinforced with galvanised steel sections inside some posts, especially for the gates, a PVC fence is very resistant and some producers propose some products with a life warranty of 30 years against fading and damages. PVC resists through the years without problems when made with a good protection against UV, among traditional colours. With shapes more massive than aluminium, PVC is stronger as a whole, however, some areas and angles exposed to shocks may be damaged, broken or crackled. The ideal way is to choose to lay the fence on low walls to avoid shocks and damages.

Price quality ratio

Aluminium is a high quality material for fences and gates. Because it is light, this is a good product for all open gates, especially those which are motorised. It is also the most expensive product but it represents an investment in terms of quality and resistance. The range of prices is wide and it is important to choose a producer that does not neglect the details. The small sections can vibrate with strong wind, we can therefore have questions on the rivet life time.

PVC has today a very good quality/price ratio, especially knowing that metals and wood prices are constantly increasing and will increase again. Strong and simple, PVC gives satisfaction for a very good price. You can find a variety of quality depending on your budget. Differences in quality will come from UV resistance, colours life time and sections inside the posts. Another big advantage is that you can do your own fence with PVC which will save on labour costs.

The most ecological

Lots of energy is needed for the production of aluminium. It is however, 100% recyclable and do not produce polluting wastes. This is a material of the future which life time is irrefutable. The material of an old fence will be completely re-used to create new material.

PVC is also ecological and can be 100% recyclable. Production of PVC do not produce polluting wastes as well. The is a strong material which has a long life time.
